Overview
Your PLANIX R1’s compass is used to set North on your iGuide Floor Plan. If the compass isn’t calibrated, you can still capture, upload and publish your iGuide, but North may be shown in the wrong direction and need to be corrected manually later. We recommend calibrating the compass at the start of each project.

When to Calibrate
Calibrate the compass at the start of each project. You should also recalibrate:
- After the camera has been near vehicles, public transit, large appliances or other metal or magnetic sources.
- If North appeared incorrect on a recent project.
- About once a month as routine maintenance.
Note: Always calibrate in an open area, away from metal doors, garages and magnets.
How to Calibrate the PLANIX R1
- Hold the camera vertically.
- Move the camera in a figure-eight pattern.
- Continue until the compass icon turns grey, which means calibration is complete.
Troubleshooting
Calibration fails: Move away from any sources of magnetic interference and try again. If it still fails, power the camera off and back on, then recalibrate.
North is incorrect on a published iGuide: You can adjust the compass angle in the iGuide Portal. See Customizing the 3D Tour From the iGuide Portal.
Frequently Asked Questions

A: It’s recommended. Calibrating at the start of each project helps make sure North is shown correctly on your floor plan.
Q: What happens if I skip calibration or it fails?
A: Your project won’t be blocked. You can still capture, upload and publish your iGuide, but North may be incorrect and need to be adjusted manually afterward.
Q: How do I know calibration was successful?
A: The compass icon turns grey once calibration is complete.
Q: Where’s the best place to calibrate?
A: In an open area, away from metal doors, garages, vehicles, large appliances and magnets.
Q: How often should I recalibrate?
A: At the start of each project, any time the camera has been near metal or magnetic sources, if North looked wrong on a recent project, and about once a month.
Q: North is wrong on my published iGuide. Can I fix it?
A: Yes. You can adjust the compass angle in the iGuide Portal. See Customizing the 3D Tour From the iGuide Portal.
